The capital of Tenerife attends this important gastronomic event with the support of Turismo de Tenerife, where renowned chefs from Santa Cruz will also be present.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife promotes this Tuesday, for the first time, the local gastronomy of the Anaga territory, at the San Sebastian Gastronomika event. This was announced by the CEO of the Development Society, Carmen Perez, who explained that “this important gastronomic event is held in the capital of San Sebastian until Wednesday and where Santa Cruz goes, hand in hand with Tenerife Tourism, along with renowned chefs of the capital, to promote and disseminate the attractions of the gastronomy of Santa Cruz”.

Carmen Pérez pointed out that “this is the first time that we have participated in this initiative and that, through the Degusta Santa Cruz – Anaga Smart Destination project, we will be able to showcase our products and services to the public”.We will promote the attractions of the capital of Tenerife in the framework of the actions contemplated in the Line of Action 10 Anaga Smart Destination of the Strategy for Sustainable and Integrated Urban Development ‘Anaga in the heart – Santa Cruz de Tenerife’ and in which some of the most renowned professionals of the restoration of our capital will participate”.

“The stand of Tenerife Tourism will feature the presence of the initiative Degusta Santa Cruz – Anaga Smart Destination promoted by the City Council of the capital, and in which this Tuesday are taking place various actions by the chefs who will represent the capital as Pedro Nel, of the restaurant Etéreo by Pedro Nel; Nacho Solana, from La Fula GastroMar; and Alberto González from San Sebastián 57; the pastry chef Alexis García, from 100% Hojaldre; and the sommelier Erika Sanz, from Jaxana Restaurant” stressed Pérez, who added that “these first activities have aroused much interest among professionals and visitors to the event”.

“Participation in events such as San Sebastian Gastronomika is part of the strategy that we follow more to make visible the product of Anaga, while we value the high quality of the cuisine we have in Santa Cruz” said Perez, who noted that “about 200 people have attended the various activities we have held at the stand of Tourism of Tenerife during this Tuesday.”

The first deputy mayor of Santa Cruz, Carlos Tarife, who also attended this event on behalf of the municipal corporation, said that “the importance of Anaga products has been demonstrated in this gastronomic show in San Sebastian, which has had the collaboration of the Island Council and the City of Santa Cruz. Likewise, the mayor explained that “the product of Anaga has European projects that try to promote its placement in the market and its knowledge”. And he affirmed that “Santa Cruz hopes to repeat and even organize a gastronomic fair of this magnitude”.

This gastronomic event was also attended by the vice-president of the Cabildo of Tenerife and responsible for Tourism, Lope Afonso, accompanied by the island councilors of the Primary Sector and Commerce, Valentín González and Krysten Martín, respectively, as well as the CEO of Tenerife Tourism, Dimple Melwani.

Thus, Tuesday’s day began with a breakfast called “Anaga, infinite paths of volcanoes and clouds”, prepared by Alexis Garcia and accompanied by Rut Gomez (Taziraga Wellness tour) where diners enjoyed dishes such as “Japanese pancake honey and cheese” or a “Brunoise of mango thyme”. Likewise, Pedro Nel, Nacho Solana, Erika Sanz, Domingo Ríos (head of the Technical Service of Agriculture and Rural Development) and Javier Tejera (Ecotouristing) participated in the round table “Anaga feeds the soul”, in which the products of Anaga were highlighted.

For his part, Alberto González led the workshop “The green gold of Anaga” in which avocado escacho was practiced and accompanied with a wine pairing prepared by Erika Sanz, while also tasting a tuna tartar on avocado bread prepared by the chef. The day continued with a lunch called “Caseríos de Anaga, la vida de ayer y de siempre” (Anaga Farmhouses, the life of yesterday and always), where dishes such as “Tartar de vieja, volcanic arbequina, lime peel”, “Avocado, banana and burgados”, “Orange and cardamom baba” and “Sea of clouds” were tasted and accompanied by a selection of D.O. wines.

The presence of Santa Cruz in San Sebastian Gastronomika is possible thanks to the collaboration with Turismo de Tenerife. Thus, the actions in which Santa Cruz participates are framed within the activities of the Product Club “Degusta Santa Cruz Anaga Smart Destination”, through the Action Line 10 Anaga Smart Destination of the Sustainable and Integrated Urban Development Strategy “Anaga in the heart – Santa Cruz de Tenerife”, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), under the Pluriregional Operational Program of Spain (POPE) 2014 – 2020, and by the City Council of Santa Cruz.
