Santa Cruz, so much flavor

The capital of the island of Tenerife, Santa Cruz, is a city where its people, friendly by nature, show you their closeness through flavors, aromas and gastronomy. It is a city where centuries-old culinary pleasures are combined with the most modern trends of avant-garde cuisine. Thus, in the same restaurant we can taste gofio, food that comes from the ancient aboriginal inhabitants of the Islands, as a magnificent ceviche of vieja (a very famous fish in the Canary Islands), or a unique sweet potato dessert, thus demonstrating that in Santa Cruz everything is possible, gastronomically speaking.

As we were saying, the gastronomic offer of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is suitable for everyone. We always strive for excellence and quality, both in service and products. This culture has its own identity, which defines Tenerife as a unique and differentiated gastronomic destination.

The local products of Tenerife contain culinary treasures that tell us the history of our ancestors, an example of which is the fresh cheese from the goats of Tenerife. One of the well-known symbols of this territory is the banana. Its intense flavor is hardly attainable by bananas that travel thousands of kilometers in refrigerators to reach this part of the world. But in Anaga, in Santa Cruz, in Tenerife and in the Canary Islands, we also have a wide range of tropical fruits with mouth-watering flavors, smells and textures.

Another of the outstanding elements of Tenerife’s food (and a symbol of Canarian identity) are its potatoes, catalogued as Papas Antiguas de Canarias, a prestigious and enviable Protected Designation of Origin.

We can stock up on all these products at El Mercado de Nuestra Señora de África, in Santa Cruz, a meeting place if ever there was one. If, on the other hand, we prefer to pamper ourselves and be delighted with these delicious dishes we can go to any of the catering establishments that are distributed throughout the municipality. Variety and choice dominate the menus of these restaurants that demonstrate an authentic cuisine. In them you will be able to taste from a tasty fish of the zone, to an exquisite and typical meat dish like the rabbit in salmorejo. And if you have any room left, you can always fill it with dessert, because in the Canary Islands we know a lot about sweetening palates.
