Well, let’s be honest, the gastronomic proposal that Las Teresitas beach offers today is very competitive. It is even difficult to choose the beach bar -now called beach clubs- that best suits what we are looking for, whether it is a coffee, a brunch, an alumerzo… because the offer is varied and has meant a leap in quality for this area of the coast of Chicharras. But it also has its charm to take a sandwich and eat it sitting on the sand in front of the beach. This is the plan we propose to you:
It all starts in La Garriga. Local of sandwiches par excellence in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. For many years, the corner of Juan de Padrón and Pérez Galdós streets was the place of reference. Now, a few meters further up Pérez Galdós street and on the sidewalk across the street is the charcuterie bar La Garriga, now converted into a local suitable for the times, even with tables outside for those who want to sit there for a snack. But that’s not our thing, our thing is a snack to take away, we’re going to the beach. The specialty is the tortilla, but remember that it is also a delicatessen, so we can also choose ham, pork loin, chorizo…
With the sandwiches still steaming, we head for the beach. Las Teresitas is about 7 kilometers from downtown Santa Cruz. The bus route on line 910 is comfortable. If we prefer the motorcycle or the car, we can choose the free parking area inaugurated at the end of summer 2023, comfortable, spacious and as close to the beginning of the beach as to the village of San Andres. This last piece of information will help us to plan for the future….
So we have our sandwiches, the motorcycle well parked and more than a kilometer of sandy beach to decide where to sit and enjoy a good swim in the Atlantic Ocean waters -very calm thanks to the breakwater that protects the entire beach- and the improvised lunch we have prepared.
What about dessert?
Here are some options: as we have said, the beach bars have a wide offer that also includes desserts. It is not a bad plan to sit for a while in its terraces and take there the sweet contribution that is missing to complete the perfect day at the beach. A second option, as traditional as it is fun, is to wait for a characteristic little music to announce the arrival of the California ice cream truck, which has been serving its cream and strawberry ice cream since 1962 and is a classic on the beach. But if the truck doesn’t pass or we miss it, remember that we had parked near San Andres, well, in that neighboring fishing village of Las Teresitas, we have a couple of good options for that dessert or that delicious ice cream we are looking for.
