Taganana

The hamlet of Taganana is one of the most special in Tenerife: its houses, picturesque white buildings, are nestled in the middle of the mountains. A day’s visit to this hamlet will delight any visitor, because in this village you can enjoy extraordinary views.

After arriving at this enclave, enjoying the path through the laurel forest, you can visit the Church of Nuestra Señora de las Nieves, which is one of the oldest on the island of Tenerife and an example of the architecture of the past of the Islands. The story goes that the image of the Virgin that is in the temple was found on a nearby beachafter the shipwreck of the galleon that carried it.

The hamlet of Tanagana is the main population center within the Anaga Rural Park. Its name comes from the Guanche “taganan or Anagan” which means “surrounded by mountains”. If you are visiting the hamlet of Anaga, you should not miss the opportunity to eat in one of the nearby restaurants:

Guachinche Bibi and Mana. It is located on the road to Taganana and is a clear example of Canarian gastronomy, with its typical dishes. It serves fresh fish dishes and others from the sea such as fried octopus or cod. The menu also offers meat dishes such as sirloin steak or “fiesta meat” typical of the Canary Islands. They also recommend tasting the house wine, which is a local vintage.

Bar Las Nieves. At Camino la Cuestilla, it offers Spanish cuisine and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The dishes of their Spanish cuisine are very well prepared. In its extensive menu, you can enjoy from fish churros to croquettes or tuna. They serve good wine and a variety of beers.

Casa Picar. With Spanish and Mediterranean cuisine, it is located on Camino Lomo los Lirios, next to the church. It has a terrace from where the best views can be observed. The staff is helpful and the place is easy to access, with an extensive and carefully selected menu.

Roque las Ánimas Restaurant, offering Canarian, Mediterranean and Spanish cuisine, is located on Carretera Almáciga. It is said to be an example of authentic Canarian food, with authentic recipes. Here you can taste fried octopus and other seafood dishes at a reasonable price, all served with good service.
