Taborno and its Stories to keep you awake

Taborno is a hamlet of the Anaga massif, with its characteristic cave houses and huts, as an example of the old rural architecture. Its location divides the valleys of Taborno and Afur, which make this enclave a fantastic viewpoint of the north coast of the Anaga massif. This ravine of Taborno also marks a dividing boundary between the municipalities of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and San Cristóbal de La Laguna, the two most populated of the island and two of the four most populated in the Canary Islands.

About Taborno, it is not known exactly if its toponym is of Guanche origin or if it comes from the surname of a neighbor of Taganana, the Lanzarote Gregorio Tabordo.

Presiding over the place is the Roque de Taborno, which is 706 meters above sea level. In this hamlet there is a small chapel dedicated to San José and built in the 40’s of the XX century.

Historias para no dormir is a restaurant opened in 2008. It is ideal for lovers of good food. Its chef is French and this is attested by the menu available to the customer. The premises, a coquettish space decorated in a cozy way, has a terrace, which adds even more attraction to this restaurant.

In addition to purely French cuisine, they also serve Mediterranean food. Its dishes are characterized by a menu with fresh products and excellent quality, in addition to a very competitive quality-price ratio.

The name, that striking Historias para no dormir (Stories to keep you awake), has remained the same since it was given to the previous managers. When the new team took over the premises, they did not want to change it, despite having a very different proposal.

Shall we go in to see the dishes? Come on, let’s go: In this restaurant in Taborno, you can taste such original dishes as kangaroo meat, deer meat or a beef Wellington. Patrick and his wife Angelica run the restaurant. In the fish options, they assure that fresh fish is purchased every weekend, along with zero kilometer product from local farmers. And although there are very good and varied options in Tenerife, they have chosen to differentiate themselves from the rest and offer only French wine.

Their homemade desserts are highly praised and those who have tasted them say that you should always leave some time to taste them. They also serve calvados, which is a digestive spirit made from apple or pear cider and is typical of the Normandy region of France.
