Santa Cruz pone en marcha el Sistema Integral de Calidad Turística en Destino

Santa Cruz launches the Integral Tourism Quality System in Destinations

The general objective of the implementation of SICTED in Santa Cruz de Tenerife is to achieve a homogeneous level of quality in the services offered to tourists within this destination.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife has begun to develop the work of the project called “Sistema Integral de Calidad Turística Española en Destinos” (SICTED), a program developed by the Secretary of State for Tourism that aims at the integral and permanent management of quality in a tourist destination. This has been reported by the first deputy mayor and councilor for Economic Promotion, Matilde Zambudio, who has detailed that “we are taking the first steps to implement this system in the capital of Tenerife whose main objective is to achieve a uniform level of quality in the services offered to tourists within that destination, encompassing both tourist services themselves and those others that, without strictly speaking, affect the itinerary of consumption of tourists.

The Integral System of Spanish Tourism Quality in Destinations (SICTED) is a program developed by the Secretary of State for Tourism, who is also the driving force behind the methodology and who directs and coordinates the project at the national level. Santa Cruz is also supported by the Government of the Canary Islands and the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP). The implementation of SICTED in Santa Cruz will improve the quality of the municipality as a tourist destination, introduce the strategy of continuous improvement and quality in tourism companies and services that influence the destination of Santa Cruz, increase the competitiveness of tourism companies and services, distinguish and recognize Santa Cruz companies that bet on quality or increase the satisfaction of tourists and encourage their loyalty, among others.

“The Society for the Development of Santa Cruz is the managing entity responsible for the project vis-à-vis the Secretary of State for Tourism, and we assume the commitments for the implementation of the system and coordinate all the actions foreseen in the project” stressed Matilde Zambudio who announced that “we have recently created an informative mini-site with all the details of the project that can be visited both in English and in Spanish on the web page www.elcorazondetenerife.com/calidad-turistica-sicted”.

“The recovery of the tourism sector in the municipality involves carrying out initiatives that affect the safety and quality of businesses, and the SICTED methodology offers tourist-oriented companies the possibility of implementing continuous improvement procedures and participate in strengthening the brand image of Destination Santa Cruz de Tenerife” stressed the mayor, who explained that “during these months, where the state of alarm has been in force, work has been carried out to adapt the proposal to the new situation of the companies and the recommendations on covid-19, taking into account that Turespaña has adapted the training to be totally online”.

Regarding the work that is currently being developed, Matilde Zambudio has reported that “given the current situation, it has been decided to design a work plan with a first group of companies and entities among which are the hotels, places to visit, tourist resources and services, to then address a second group in which tourist companies of excursions, stores and catering establishments are included”.

The companies involved will be offered, among other things, an online training plan, application of the best practices manual adapted to each type of business, technical assistance by SICTED consultants, working groups that develop proposals for improvement for the destination and evaluations that contrast the adequacy of the company/tourist service to the quality standards and that culminate with the award of the Commitment to Tourism Quality distinctive for the companies/services adhered to.

Finally, the first deputy mayor and councilor for Economic Promotion, Matilde Zambudio, recalled that “the current period of SICTED runs from June 2020 to June 2021 and we will focus our next actions in the initial recruitment and accession of companies; the evaluation of each company adhered with the aim of obtaining the distinction; the development of the online training program for member companies; the creation of improvement groups to put forward proposals that increase the competitiveness of the destination and respond to a municipal strategy; and the creation of the Destination Quality Board, which will be made up of different areas of the City Council and external agents in order to facilitate coordination and improve the management of the tourist destination”.
