One more ingredient in your life

They say in their social networks “We like to be one more ingredient in your life”. A successful claim that perfectly summarizes what this establishment means for many families in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and for visitors to this city who bring it pointed in their list of recommendations. Depatanegra is located on San Clemente street, almost on the corner of Viera y Clavijo and a stone’s throw from the Pilar church, in the heart of the capital. This is if we are talking about Santa Cruz, because this family business started in La Orotava, where they keep their first Depatanegra. In addition to these two stores, another one has been added in El Sauzal.

The store in Santa Cruz is a paradise for lovers of ham in particular and gourmet products in general. The aromas that are captured as soon as you cross the entrance door are a gift and, on the way to the ham area, located at the back, it is mandatory to stop and browse. There we can find the best preserves, oils from different origins, balsamic creams, a wide range of pâtés, jams and wines! In addition, the always attentive staff will advise you on the best way to combine the best wine with the ham we are going to take… because we are going to take ham, right?

That’s what we’ve come all this way for! The large area for hams is an amusement park. We have a master ham slicer cutting live and direct. As you can imagine, the smells and tastes become hypnotic. Yes, also flavors, because they let us taste the ham before we take it away. Hanging in every direction we look, we see legs of different origins. Depatanegra has the four denominations of origin of Ibérico de España, in addition to a wide offer with different prices and always with the highest quality.

And don’t forget the cheeses…

And once we have chosen the ham we are going to take, it’s time for the cheeses, because if Depatanegra is a specialist in Iberian products, its cheese offer is not far behind either, especially national and Canarian, although it is not difficult to find cheeses from Italy, for example. Canarian cheeses are generally goat cheeses and are highly valued. If we add up all the islands, we could have around 500 dairies, most of which are small and artisanal. The islands’ own biodiversity and the native breeds from which these cheeses are produced make them differentiated products. It is a rare year that one of them does not triumph in national cheese competitions.
