Una excursión al faro de Anaga

An excursion to the Anaga lighthouse

Chamorga is a magical place. To reach this hamlet, we have to cross some of the most protected and humid areas of the Anaga Massif. Line 947 (www.titsa.com/index.php/tus-guaguas/lineas-y-horarios/linea-947) takes us to this village, from where we want to leave to reach the lighthouse of Anaga, after passing through Roque Bermejo.

It will be a quiet and well marked walk, but hard, especially the return, which will be uphill. Therefore, it is recommended to do it with the proper equipment, being in good physical shape and carrying plenty of water and food, as well as warm clothes. It is a good occasion, by the way, to take with us one of the foods that since ancient times, give energy to the Canary Islanders: gofio, which when it comes to eating it on an excursion, it is usually made in the typical pella with honey and almonds, pure energy!

It will be a 4 hour hike. On the way down, we follow the signs of the PR-TF-6 trail. The landscape on the descent will gradually dry out, as the wetlands remain above. Arriving at Roque Bermejo is a surprise, a few meters above sea level, we find some houses. Next to them, trees and orchards, a miracle of water that humans have been able to bring to this corner of the island that can only be reached on foot or by sea. Not always but in the houses of Roque Bermejo we will be able to buy some drinks and food.

As we have already done almost half of the trail, the easy half, it is worth celebrating by recharging our batteries and bathing at the beach or the pier.

Refreshed and breath refreshed, it’s time to go up. The stretch between the beach and the lighthouse is the hardest part of the hike, although at least it is on a wide trail. Of course, the view from the lighthouse is comforting and worth the effort. It is located about 200 meters above sea level, is one of the oldest in the archipelago and has witnessed several shipwrecks…

The road we must follow back to Chamorga, where a tasty reward awaits us, is the variant PR-TF-6.1, which will take us past the houses of Tafada, ruins that show us how this area came to be much more populated, something that is also attested by the terraces that we can see along the way, on slopes that today seem impossible and that were once cultivated. Already in Chamorga, it is time to pay tribute, eating in one of the places with more character of the island. Simple and succulent food, fish, meats, smoked cheese… all served with joy and good humor, knowing the server and the served that they are not in just any place, and that eating well is the finishing touch to a hard day beating the slopes of Anaga.
