One of the best known viewpoints in Anaga is located on the TF-134, the road to Taganana. This is the Amogoje viewpoint, located under the rock of the same name, a rock that, as you go down the road – at a certain point – bears a striking resemblance to a lion. Things of the pareidola. Curiously, the majestic feline cannot be seen from the viewpoint itself, since we are just below, but other stony animals can be seen, since the capricious shapes of Anaga together with the imagination of human beings have splashed the massif with animal shapes.
What other surprises does the Taganana Valley have in store for us? Well, a bear, the one that the popular tradition sees in the Roque de Dentro, one of the islets so characteristic of this landscape. It is true that this islet looks astonishingly similar to a snout looking towards the sky, that is what the most imaginative have wanted to see in the Roque de Fuera the feet of that bear, which would be lying on the ocean with its belly covered by the water. It’s just a matter of looking…
But beyond the coincidences of geology, from Amogoje we observe the north face of the Anaga massif, very green and lush the higher up; more humanized the closer we get to the sea, especially in this area of Taganana, populated since ancient times, and where the cultivation of vines has gained importance in recent years. From here we sense the proximity of some of the beaches that have more postcards of the island. Wild beaches, constantly battered by the waves and with black, volcanic sand, natural to the area. Just below, the Roque de las Bodegas, Almáciga or the more distant Benijo can be seen among the greenery, waiting for the arriving traveler.
Traveler that up to this point can also be accessed with the
line 946
which leads to Taganana and continues to Almáciga; but there is another way to Amogoje. And it is walking. The PR-TF-4 trail, which connects from El Bailador, reaches this point. Along this path, we would continue towards the village, towards Taganana, in a much more cultivated valley than the one in front of us. But here we have another exit, the PR-TF-4.1 that would take us to Almáciga and its beach, crossing -not without effort- the slopes and ravines of an area that anyone can fall in love with. More tiring to walk, yes, but with the already known advantage: at every step, you are at the best viewpoint.
