while Vía Orgánica, El Picú, Znack’s Sabores de Asia and Kokken were the best tapas of the “Around the World” initiative, held last December.

Thus, Cabello explained that “69 catering establishments participated in “Degusta las Fiestas de Mayo” and in which a total of 4,257 tapas were dispensed, a very striking figure and that comes to consolidate the idea that these initiatives are attractive to the sector and also for the population,” and stressed that “the webapp recorded some very relevant indicators such as 216.631 page views, the 9,790 unique users, the 1,009 ratings of the tapas by the public, or the 2.35 minutes of average time of use per user”.

The mayor recalled that “the route “Around the World”, held in December and in which 61 locals participated, also obtained very good results in its first days of operation as evidenced by the 58,564 visits received on the webapp and 3,812 unique users”.

“Although we had to suspend it due to the indoor closure decreed by the Government of the Canary Islands, a gastronomic critic evaluated the 61 tapas presented by the establishments and issued a verdict based on quality and in which those of Vía Orgánica, El Picú, Znack’s Sabores de Asia and Kokken were recognized,” Cabello explained.

“At a time as delicate as this, many sectors are having a hard time, but especially the restoration, so from the City Council we are launching initiatives to encourage consumption and help key sectors of our economy such as the hospitality industry,” said the mayor, who stressed that “over the past few months we have articulated actions such as these gastronomic routes or Bonds Consumption, which have had a positive impact on the sector”.

The awards ceremony was also attended by the head of service of the Directorate General of Trade and Consumer Affairs of the Government of the Canary Islands, Candido Santana, and the manager of the association Zona Centro, Ruth Dorta, who agreed on the need to continue to raise initiatives that benefit one of the sectors hardest hit by the pandemic.

Thus, Cándido Santana explained that “we have participated in the route of the May tapa, in the framework of collaboration with traditional markets and the actions we have launched to disseminate the attractions of kilometer 0 products in Santa Cruz”, and stressed “the importance of public-private collaboration for the celebration of these initiatives, which will be reinforced with activities that will be presented soon”.

For her part, Ruth Dorta stressed “the importance of the tractor and dynamic effect that public-private collaboration has on the entire business fabric”, and pointed out that “we have our hopes pinned on the early reactivation of the sector through high-impact revitalization actions such as the gastronomic routes”.

The gastronomic route “Degusta las Fiestas de Mayo” was organized by the Sociedad de Desarrollo and financed by the Dirección General de Comercio y Consumo del Gobierno de Canarias, while “La Vuelta al Mundo” was organized by the Sociedad de Desarrollo and promoted by the commercial association Zona Centro.
