The City Council of Santa Cruz, through the Development Society, presented this Friday the initiative ‘GastroHotel Weeks’, in which ten hotels in the capital of Tenerife will participate to promote the cuisine of the hotel establishments and that will last until November. This initiative, which begins this Saturday at the Hotel Heritage Grand Mencey, consists of offering a menu, dish or tapa created by the resident chef of the hotel together with a chef of regional prestige, for a week, at an affordable price and that have been prepared with products from Anaga, kilometer 0 or Canary Islands products.

The presentation, which took place at the Heritage Grand Mencey Hotel, was attended by the mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, the CEO of the Development Society, Carmen Pérez, the director of the Silken Atlántida Hotel and vice president of ASHOTEL, Gabriel Wolgeschaffen, and more than a dozen regional and local chefs and hotel managers from Santa Cruz who are participating in this initiative.

Thus, the mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, highlighted the importance of a sector such as catering “which accounts for almost 10% of the economy of Santa Cruz, making it one of the most dynamic in the capital and a benchmark in terms of quality values”, and added “it is undoubtedly a great opportunity to promote the cuisine of hotel establishments open to the public, without the need to check in”.

The CEO of the Development Society, Carmen Perez, explained that “this is a very new initiative, which aims to value local cuisine while promoting and visibility of hotel catering, bringing it closer to both the local population and tourists” and added that “this action, which is configured as a strategy to promote hotel gastronomy, involves the participation of the Hotel Heritage Grand Mencey, Silken Atlántida, AC Tenerife, NH Tenerife, Hotel Escuela Santa Cruz, Occidental Contemporáneo, Taburiente, Hotel Adonis, Hotel Colón Rambla and the Urban Anaga”.

As for the prestigious chefs, Carmen Pérez detailed that “these are 10 chefs with Michelin Star or Repsol Suns distinctions, including Erlantz Gorostiza, Seve Díaz, Omar Bedia, Víctor Suárez, Víctor Planas, Adrián Bosh, Alberto González Margallo, Diana Marcelino, Pedro Nel and Gonzalo Tamames” and added that “each hotel will host this initiative for a week at affordable prices”.

“The first of these days will start this Saturday at the Hotel Heritage Grand Mencey, in the Papa Negra restaurant, which can be visited until September 23, and where you can taste the proposal called ‘Carpaccio de medregal al mojo rojo’, designed by chef Erlantz Gorostiza, along with the restaurant team,” said Carmen Perez.
