Almost 60 establishments participate in the “Ruta de la Tapa de la Huerta”.
Almost 60 establishments participate in the “Ruta de la Tapa de la Huerta” to be held in the capital of Tenerife from Thursday 7 to September 24, 2023. This new edition is focused on elaborations with vegetable products, vegetables and / or fruit in particular, from the Anaga Massif, and consists of tapa and drink for 4 euros.
The presentation, which took place this Thursday at the Market Nuestra Señora de África, was attended by the mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, the CEO of the Development Company, Carmen Pérez, the first deputy mayor and councilman responsible for the Market Nuestra Señora de África, Carlos Tarife, the president of the cooperative of that market, Estefanía Hernández, as well as representatives of half a dozen catering establishments in the municipality.
Thus, the mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, stressed that the Ruta de la Tapa “is a recipe for success in Santa Cruz, which also serves to promote a quality product, such as Anaga, along with gastronomy” and added that “from now until the end of the year we have many activities during all weekends, with the idea that families from all over the island enjoy our town and thus encourage consumption and the economy”.
For his part, the first deputy mayor and councilman responsible for the Market Our Lady of Africa, Carlos Tarife, said that “the market is the epicenter of local production and is the enclave where our catering establishments are supplied for us to taste with the high quality that we are accustomed to” and added that “this route is another way to energize Santa Cruz, an intention that we have very present in the Consistory and an objective that we have set, that the capital is alive and hosts activities for all audiences and throughout the week”.
Likewise, the president of the cooperative Market Our Lady of Africa, Estefania Hernandez, thanked “the momentum of the City Council to promote local produce and efforts to revitalize such important places like the market”.
The CEO of the Development Company, Carmen Perez, explained that “the catering sector accounts for almost 10% of the economy of Santa Cruz, is one of the most dynamic sectors of the capital and is a benchmark in terms of quality values it represents” and added that “according to our data, today Santa Cruz has 1.193 catering establishments, so it is a pillar of the economy of Santa Cruz and from the City Council also want to help boost it, to generate economy, hence, that today we are presenting the Ruta de la Tapa de la Huerta”.
“This is the second of four routes to be held in the capital of Tenerife before the end of this year and as for the theme of this edition of the Ruta de la Tapa is related to the promotion of vegetable products, vegetables and / or fruit in particular, from the Anaga Massif, from the EDUSI territory, from the island of Tenerife and/or the Canary Islands” said Pérez, who thanked the presence of some of the registered establishments, such as Bar Barbastro, Como en Casa Lila, 2 Grados Centígrados, Contigo-Comida Saludable, Auyama Real Food, Restaurante Vintage and Bar Demi”.
Carmen Pérez also informed that “the ‘Ruta de la Tapa de la Huerta’ will once again have a webapp, www.degustalatapasantacruz.com.and where you can consult the participating establishments, schedules, location, ingredients and where you can also vote for the best gastronomic proposals” and announced that “this time will also be awarded to both restaurateurs and the public through a voting system that will determine the three best tapas, which will be distinguished with a diploma, as well as three users who register their votes through the webapp”.
In the last edition of the tapas route, held in July and in which 77 establishments participated, this webapp registered almost 18,000 visits, more than 8,800 unique registered users and more than 2,500 votes that determined the winning gastronomic proposals of that edition. Thus, in the course of the informative act, the awards were presented to the winning establishments, which went to La Casita de Nazareno as the first place; to 2 Grados Centígrados, which obtained the second place; and to Cafetería Bahía, which won the third place.
The “Ruta de la Tapa de la Huerta” is part of the program of activities promoted by the City Council of Santa Cruz in the framework of the Product Club “Degusta Santa Cruz Anaga Smart Destination”, specifically, in the Action Line 10 Anaga Smart Destination of the Strategy for Sustainable and Integrated Urban Development “Anaga in the heart – Santa Cruz de Tenerife”, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), under the Pluriregional Operational Program of Spain (POPE) 2014 – 2020, and by the City Council of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
