Tasty reactivation in “Degusta Santa Cruz”.
We were looking forward to it so much that we can only congratulate everyone and, why not, also congratulate all of us who work day after day in the Santa Cruz Development Society and, more specifically, in the exciting project and product club “Degusta Santa Cruz”.
After many months of uncertainty, restrictions and closures of establishments due to the complicated economic crisis and the worrying health crisis caused by the SARS-CoV2 coronavirus pandemic, economic, business and professional activity is once again showing clear signs of recovery in the hotel and catering sector.
Santa Cruz de Tenerife and its citizens have been an example of resilience all these past months, and the aforementioned gastronomy, hotel and catering sector has been doubly so and has been “weathering the storm” to, in the midst of all the problems, continue trying to be the “tasty heart” and the “Gastronomic Capital of Tenerife”.
At this moment we can look to the future with more hope, with more illusion and, proof of this, is the tasty reactivation that is already being noticed in the capital of Tenerife with anniversaries and reopenings and new openings, of which we will report in the following lines.
In the section of happy birthdays, we can highlight the fourth anniversary of the Nielsen restaurant, headed by chef Danny Nielsen as head chef, in the popular Callejón del Combate (Phone: 822 102 364). Also celebrating its third anniversary is the Etéreo restaurant, with chef Pedro Nel Restrepo as head chef, on San Antonio street in the El Toscal neighborhood of Santa Cruz (Telephone: 922 194 195).
In the section of new openings we can highlight that of the trattoria La Fiorellina, at 38 Viera y Clavijo street, right in the premises that, until the retirement of its chef, was occupied by the restaurant Clavijo, 38. The new establishment is more than a simple pizzeria and, with the qualification of trattoria presents and offers a wider menu of authentic Italian cuisine (Telephone: 922 890 698).
On the way up to Ifara, specifically at 10 Rubens Marichal López Street, just where the Official Language School was for a time, a spacious restaurant has just opened its doors under the name of La Forêt, which has an impressive terrace that offers its diners spectacular panoramic views of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Telephone: 822 126 185).
Another noteworthy novelty is the reopening of an establishment that from now on will occupy the space that, for a long time, was called “La Mesa Noche”. The new establishment, which presents itself and describes itself as “the first thematic restaurant in Tenerife” is called Mar DeNorte and, obviously, will base its menu on fish cuisine. It is located in Aguere Street No. 4 in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, on the banks of the Barranco de Santos and right next to the popular “Torres de Cristal” (Telephone: 691 631 855).
And we cannot forget in this chronicle of the “tasty reactivation” of our capital of Tenerife, without mentioning the happy reopening of the emblematic restaurant and bar-cafeteria Atlántico, on the first floor of the Real Casino de Tenerife, in the Plaza de España, with its spectacular and popular terrace already open to the general public.
After a long period of closure, in which its new concessionaire has executed some very important works of rehabilitation and modernization of spaces, as well as renovation of facilities and equipment, the new Atlántico has reopened its doors having as visible head the young but experienced businessman, Airam Afonso Cabeza, great veterinarian and expert in the breed of the black canary pig, who, at the same time is the owner of the popular restaurant La Cuadra del Palmero, next to the Guimerá Theater.
To conclude this report, it is worth mentioning some bittersweet news. The prestigious chef Armando Saldanha and his partner and head waitress, Patricia Sáez, have dissociated themselves from what until now have been their three restaurants in the capital of Tenerife, the oriental El Gato Negro (on the Rambla de Santa Cruz, next to the Plaza del Toros), the Peruvian Amor de mis amores (on Calle El Perdón, 5) and the Mexican Amorcito Corazón (on Calle Santa Rosalía, 49), which are still open, but without them.
The good part of this bittersweet news is that Armando Saldanha and Patricia Sáez are already preparing their re-entry into the Santa Cruz gastronomic scene with the development of a new restaurant project, which we will soon report on in Degusta Santa Cruz.
In view of all that has been said, it is clear that, very happy, but not yet throwing the bells to the flight, we can congratulate ourselves that Santa Cruz de Tenerife is already living a happy and “tasty reactivation” in the field of the so affected as reillusioned sector of gastronomy, hospitality and catering.
From the Degusta Santa Cruz project and product club, we would like to congratulate the restaurants that, despite all odds, continue to celebrate their first years of professional service to their clientele, while welcoming the new establishments that are opening their doors, wishing them all the luck in the world and success.
