Santa Cruz opens registration for the gastronomic route “Taste the Fiestas de Mayo”.

The Development Society, together with the General Directorate of Trade and Consumer Affairs of the Canary Islands Government, will hold a gastronomic route in the capital of Tenerife during the month of May. This has been reported by the CEO of the Development Company, Alfonso Cabello, who noted that “as part of the founding festivities of the city, we wanted to promote a gastronomic route based on products of our land and that will run until early June”.

In this regard, Alfonso Cabello explained that “the route, called “Taste the May Festivities”, aims to position the capital of Tenerife as a highlight of Canarian gastronomy and disseminate the wide range of establishments that are in the heart of Tenerife”, and reported that “we are currently in the recruitment phase of participating establishments, so that local interested in participating in this route can register through the website of the Development Company, that is www.sociedad-desarrollo.com, until next May 7″.

The mayor also explained that “the gastronomic route, aims to cover the 5 districts of the capital of Tenerife and consists of a tapa and drink for 3.5 euros, with the possibility of taking it on the premises or pick it up at the establishment to taste it at home,” and stressed that “in such a delicate time for the restoration of the municipality, we try to revive consumption with many measures such as this, but always alluding to the responsibility of the population and prioritizing the health measures in force”.

For his part, the second deputy mayor and Councillor for Economic Promotion, Evelyn Alonso, said that “we hope that a large number of catering establishments throughout the municipality, in order to have an attractive gastronomic route for consumers, since what we seek is to value the gastronomy of Santa Cruz and, above all, the quality of the local product”, and reported that “once the deadline for registration for catering establishments, will begin the promotion of this gastronomic route and that will run from May 12 to June 4.

Evelyn Alonso also said that “as already happened in December, the route will have a webapp in order to centralize all the information of the local participants, the tapas offered, the ingredients, as well as the schedule in which each local dispenses the cover, and will feature, as a novelty, with the possibility that users of the route are registered and vote for the best cover, allowing, thus, to strengthen the visibility of the wide gastronomic offer available in our city”.

“We are aware of the difficulties in which we are immersed, both citizens and the business community, but from the City Council we are launching many actions to encourage consumption” stressed Alonso, who noted that “to avoid crowds, the webapp, which will soon give more details, will be very useful, since having all the participating establishments and their schedules, the user can plan the visit to one or more establishments until June 4, as well as consider the possibility of taking it locally or take it home.

Finally, the Councilor for Economic Promotion, Evelyn Alonso, thanked “the involvement of the Directorate General of Trade and Consumer Affairs of the Government of the Canary Islands for the implementation of this initiative”, and reiterated that “this is a proposal that seeks to help the restoration, but always appealing to the commitment of society in terms of health measures is concerned”.

The gastronomic route “Degusta las Fiestas de Mayo” is an initiative organized by the Sociedad de Desarrollo and financed by the Dirección General de Comercio y Consumo del Gobierno de Canarias.
