Anaga on two wheels

The first thing to know and be very clear: the wide network of trails in Anaga does not allow cycling on them. This in itself would be extremely difficult in many of these trails because they lack flat stretches, are very narrow and some even have natural steps. But there are some exceptions in the area around the Cruz del Carmen, where some of the incoming roads are wider as they run along firebreaks.

On the website of the Visitors Center of the Cruz de Carmen itself, we can find information about the stretches of the Anaga mountains that can be covered by bicycle without major risks and without exposing us to a painful fine.

One thing that mountain bikes can do without restriction is to ride on the trails of the trails of the whole island, including those of Anaga. Many of these tracks are farm roads, wide and with little gradient compared to the trails. In this page offered by the Cabildo de Tenerife, you can check in real time the location of some of these tracks and their status: https://www.tenerifeon.es/mapa-interactivo.

And of course, being just another vehicle, with the proper precautions and the necessary equipment, it is possible to ride a bicycle on the roads of Anaga, in fact there are many who do it.

The stretch of the TF-12 between the Cruz del Carmen and the Bailadero junction with the Taganana road is a stretch without insurmountable slopes and very pleasant to travel, as there is usually little traffic and we cross the usual ‘sea of clouds’, which protects us from the heat. However, climbing up to this stretch, either from Taganana, from San Andrés or from La Laguna, will require a greater effort…

An interesting route, amateur level and combining asphalt with track could start from the center of La Laguna, towards Las Mercedes, always on asphalt. Once there, we continue up the TF-12 to Pico del Inglés. After admiring the views, we head back down and to kill the earth bug and test the mountain bike’s shock absorbers, we can detour to the Las Hiedras trail, a relatively easy section suitable for mountain bikes. The return could be again by asphalt to La Laguna, with a recommended stop at the cafeteria of the Cruz del Carmen.

But if we lack time to create our routes from 0 or even if we lack a bicycle, but we have plenty of desire, some of the following companies not only rent bicycles, but also organize routes through Anaga, no one better than them to organize a pedaling excursion:
