A paradise to be discovered
Near Igueste de San Andrés, we find Antequera beach, in the southern part of the Anaga Massif. Antequera belongs territorially to Santa Cruz de Tenerife and is characterized, in addition to its fine sand, by its difficult access. This beach can only be accessed through a path that will take about two or three hours of walking and by sea.
Despite how inaccessible it is to get to the beach, this Antequera beach retains its natural and wild state, making it unique among the beaches of Tenerife. Ideal to spend the day there and enjoy the bath, the sun and a picnic that we will have to carry in our backpacks, because the beach does not have any service establishment of any kind, which adds even more value. Keep in mind that the tide is key to enter/exit the beach. At high tide hours, the sand is completely covered by the sea, so it is advisable to leave with the times of low and high tide well learned.
There are two ways to get to Antequera. One is on foot: we must be in top shape, we will leave the car in Igueste de San Andrés and from there we will take the two trails used. Remember that the trail is between ravines and this makes the route more difficult. But we can also access by sea, if we have our own recreational boat with the appropriate characteristics or if we previously hired the service.
The ideal, since we are in sporting plan, is to make the journey on foot to arrive and by boat to leave, so we will enjoy the trail and return in a more comfortable way after enjoying a good swim in the sea.
Another of the fantastic beaches of the capital of Tenerife where you can enjoy a picnic is Las Gaviotas. It is a small beach of black volcanic sand that is located east of Las Teresitas and at the foot of a cliff, but it is very easy to access. It is reached by a road, the TF-121, which leads to a parking area. From there, you only have to walk a few meters to reach the beach.
In short, Antequera and Las Gaviotas, each in its own style, are two original places to spend the day and enjoy a picnic. What we put in that backpack is up to us, but in order not to clash with the environment, it would be interesting to carry zero kilometer products.
