“Degusta Santa Cruz” arrives at GastroCanarias with more than 18 gastronomic activities.

From May 20 to 22, the capital of Tenerife will host around twenty activities at its stand 502-508 at the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Fairgrounds.

The Santa Cruz de Tenerife Development Society, through “Degusta Santa Cruz,” is finalizing preparations to promote local products and Chicharrera cuisine at the Canary Islands Gastronomic Fair, GastroCanarias 2025, which will take place from May 20 to 22 at the Santa Cruz Fairgrounds. This was announced by the Mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, who explained that “for this tenth edition of GastroCanarias, we have prepared an intense three-day activity program featuring 16 cooking demonstrations, a roundtable discussion, and two product tastings.”

In this regard, Bermúdez stated that “through ‘Degusta Santa Cruz’ we reaffirm our commitment to gastronomy as a hallmark and driving force of local development,” adding that “our proposal for this edition seeks a balance between rooted cuisine, quality products, and professionals, exploring everything from tradition to constant evolution, with the aim of promoting Santa Cruz as a gastronomic tourist destination.”

For her part, Carmen Pérez, CEO of the Development Society, reported that “for three intense days, the ‘Degusta Santa Cruz’ stand will host showcookings, tastings, talks, and roundtable discussions, connecting the past, present, and future of local cuisine.” She added that “the program offers a complete culinary journey, starting with the essence of Anaga’s tradition: its wines, cheeses, and ancestral recipes, interpreted by chefs such as Juana de Casa Álvaro, and showcasing the richness of the Biosphere Reserve.”

In this regard, Pérez explained that “at the same time, contemporary signature expressions will be showcased with figures and restaurants such as Moral and Etéreo, as well as pastry trends from Madre Mía Rolls and coffee from JR. ROASTERS, always highlighting the quality of local produce and pure innovation,” adding that “beyond the stovetop, this year’s offering will encourage dialogue and discovery through an important roundtable that will bring together emblematic figures of traditional catering to discuss the future of the profession.”

“The planned program will allow visitors to discover new culinary projects driven by emerging talent, as well as explore the enriching influences of world cuisines and the thriving liquid gastronomy offerings, such as cocktails, that define urban leisure,” Pérez emphasized, adding that “in addition to the talks, workshops, and cooking shows, the stand will feature a display area for Anaga products, where tastings will be held, and information about the Degusta Santa Cruz Product Club will be provided.”

As a new feature of this edition, this Tuesday at 1:30 p.m., the showcooking event called “Taste Santa Cruz hand in hand” will take place. The Mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, the Councilor for the Development Society, Carmen Pérez, and the renowned chef Alberto Margallo, from San Sebastián 57, will cook together, bringing public profiles closer to the public in a relaxed atmosphere, sharing anecdotes and also their culinary skills.

Three Days of Gastronomic Activities
On Tuesday, May 20, the opening day at the stand will begin with a cooking show that will lay the groundwork for this edition: “Taste Santa Cruz, the Gastronomy That Unites Us.” Following this, the Moral Restaurant will present its philosophy of “Product and Emotion: Honest Cuisine.” That same morning, the “Taste Santa Cruz Hand in Hand” event will feature the participation of the Mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, the CEO of the Development Society, Carmen Pérez, and chef Alberto Margallo of San Sebastián 57.

The afternoon will delve into the flavors of Anaga with “Anaga on a Slow Fire: The Cuisine of Memory” by Casa Álvaro, and a guided tasting by Chaxiraxi Triana of Canary Wine. The day will conclude with a roundtable discussion “Santa Cruz on the Table: History, Flavor, and Craft,” which brought together representatives from iconic establishments, and a cooking demonstration entitled “Cuisine and Mixology: A Perfect Pairing.”

The second day at GastroCanarias will continue exploring the city’s culinary excellence. Cayote Restaurant will open the day with a “taste and technique” demonstration, followed by a deeper dive into the region’s wines with a Táganan tasting. La Recova Market will be the star of “Cooking the Market,” a show cooking event highlighting fresh local produce.

For another year, Restaurante Etéreo by Pedro Nel will showcase its fusion cuisine at our stand. A sweet touch will come with “Endulzando Santa Cruz” (Sweeting Santa Cruz) by Como en Casa Lila. The event will conclude with a talk about healthy and sustainable gastronomy, given by La Verdulería.

As a finale, the talk “Taste Santa Cruz, 10 Years of Investing in Our Gastronomy” will be held on Thursday the 22nd. This talk will be accompanied by activities such as a Madre Mía Rolls show cooking, which will showcase new trends in the world of pastries. Additionally, we will feature La Chachi Restaurant, which will explore the concept of “Santa Cruz, a Traveling Palate and Local Produce.”

At noon, renowned chef Nacho Solana will offer a presentation highlighting local produce and emerging trends. There will also be a space for new culinary projects in the capital, this time featuring Pezka and his fusion cuisine. The program will close with “Aromas de Santa Cruz,” curated by JR. ROASTERS, and a cooking show showcasing the traditional Santa Cruz afternoons.
