GastroCanarias 2019: reference and meeting point for the gastronomic sector of the Islands.
The Gastronomic Fair of the Canary Islands – GastroCanarias 2019 will kick off on the 21st (Tuesday), at 10:30 am. Santa Cruz de Tenerife will be present at stands 501 to 506 with conferences, tastings and showcookings. The presence of more than 200 modules of stands spread over 15,000 square meters, make it a great showcase for the promotion of agri-food products from the Canary Islands, national and international, in addition to serving as a reference, meeting point and space for the exchange of information and knowledge among professionals and foodies.
The sixth edition of the Salón Gastronómico de Canarias – GastroCanarias 2019 is promoted and organized jointly by the Institución Ferial de Tenerife (IFTSAU) and the company Interideas, S.L.U., through its platform GastroCanarias, and has the institutional sponsorship of the Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, the Government of the Canary Islands and the City Council of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
This year, the official “Guest Island” will be El Hierro, which will have a direct impact on the Canary Islands Absolute Cooking Championship and the Canary Islands Championship of Young Chefs and Cooks, in which typical products of the Island of El Hierro will be used. Also noteworthy is the participation, for the second consecutive year, of each of the seven islands with their own stands promoted by their respective councils, as well as the municipalities of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, La Laguna and Los Realejos.
The two main stages will host the various cooking and beverage competitions, as well as large-scale cooking workshops (cooking shows). At the official stand of the Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, (Special Area “A”) there will be a specific area dedicated to the Wines of Tenerife, with commented tastings and activities for professionals; and in the different stands there will be an extensive program of presentations and tastings of products, as well as other complementary activities.
Likewise, and after the success obtained in the last two years, the “Aula de Formación GastroCanarias-HECANSA” will reopen its doors where, during the three days of the event, a series of master classes, specific cooking workshops, training courses for professionals and amateurs and a wide and varied program of activities will take place, with free admission until full capacity is reached.
The program of activities includes the cooking shows that will be presented on the Heineken Stage. The inaugural show cooking (May 21 at 12:00) will feature the “Guest Island”, El Hierro, under the title “The seafaring vision of the cuisine of El Hierro”. It will be directed by the Herreño chef Arabisén Quintero, from the restaurant Casa Juan, La Restinga.
On the Heineken stage, the following speakers will also be present Diana Marcelinowinner of the 9th Canary Islands Absolute Chefs Championship, with the presentation “The pantry of Tenerife”; Gran Canaria will also have a leading role on this stage with the presentations entitled “Innovating in the kitchen from the sea: seaweed”, by Luis Guirao, Juan Santiago and Óscar Dayas and “El queso flor, transhumante de Gran Canaria” (The flower cheese, transhumant of Gran Canaria) by Cristóbal Moreno, Borja Marrero and Ángel Palacios. In addition, you can enjoy two interesting presentations on edible gardens and artisan bakery, by Laura Lopez Terron, expert in organic agriculture and rural development and Alexis Garcia, master baker and pastry chef, expert in artisan and organic bakery, cereals and sourdoughs, respectively.
During the 6th Salón Gastronómico de Canarias, ten major championships will be held, six in the cooking category (“Cabildo de Tenerife” stage) and four in the beverage category (“Heineken” stage), in which representatives from all the islands will participate. As an appetizer, the finalists of the 15th Canary Islands Absolute Cooking Championship – Grand Prix Cabildo de Tenerife, will go on Monday, the 20th, at 17.00 hours, to the Supermarket of El Corte Ingles, where the “secret” product protagonist of this competition will be announced.
The championships related to Cuisine, to be held on the “Cabildo de Tenerife” Stage during GastroCanarias 2019, will be:

– 6th Canary Islands Championship of Canarian Signature Sandwiches – Gran Premio Ingapan Canarias (May 23)
– 4th Canary Islands Absolute Pastry Championship – Gran Premio Grupo Harinalia. (May 23)
– 2nd Canary Islands Absolute Championship of Pizza Gran – Premio Grupo Comit (May 21)
The championships in the beverage category, to be held on the Heineken Stage, will be as follows:
– 6th Canary Islands Absolute Championship of Classic Cocktail – Grand Prix Ron Diplomático. (May 22)
– 7th Canary Islands Absolute Gin and Tonic Championship – Macaronesian Gin Grand Prix. (May 22)
– 6th Canary Islands Absolute Beer Pulling Championship (Professionals and amateurs) – Heineken Grand Prix. (May 23)
– 6th Championship of the Canary Islands Absolute Acrobatic Cocktail Championship “Flairtending”. (May 23)
The 6th Salón Gastronómico de Canarias will open its doors from 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., with an entrance fee of 10 euros, with visitors having the possibility of buying a voucher for the three days, at a price of 20 euros. A special discount of 50% of the ticket price is established for people over 65 years of age.
The Canary Islands Gastronomy Show – GastroCanarias 2019 will kick off on the 21st (Tuesday), at 10:30 a.m., with the official opening ceremony, which is expected to be attended by the main authorities of Tenerife and the Canary Islands.
